Hallowtide Salmon Run at Carkeek

  • Carkeek Park 950 Northwest Carkeek Park Road Seattle, WA, 98177 United States (map)

Join us on Hallowtide to observe one of the great rituals of our piece of the planet: the return of salmon to their birth streams to spawn the next generation as their lives come to an end. Let’s gather on this ancient sacred day to reflect on the beauty, joy, grief, and challenges of cycles of death and new life in the world around us and in our own life.

Hallowtide, October 31 - November 2, is a season of remembrance for the dead and reflection on the ephemeral nature of life. It is of European pagan origins, later Christianized, and today encompasses the observations of Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, All Saint’s Day, and All Soul’s Day.

We’ll be gathering along Pipers Creek in Carkeek Park for the chum salmon run. We’ll be meeting in the general vicinity of the information kiosk near the first parking spots, just past the pump station. Here is the location on Google Maps. If you come later in the gathering, we may have wandered further west along the Pipers Creek Trail to another viewing point.

We’ll be sharing a light community potluck, conversation, and reflection. If you’d like, bring snack food to share. We’ll have some spare camping chairs, please bring your own if its convenient so we can ensure we have enough. Please bring anything you need to be comfortable outdoors. In case of rain, we’ll gather under the shelter of some of the large oak trees.

Email gatheringround.seattle@gmail.com for any questions or access needs.

Accessibility: There is free parking. There is level paved ground where we are meeting. We will spend most of the gathering sitting in the grass field. If it meets the access needs of the group, we may walk along the path along the creek to see different viewing points. There are portable toilets near our gathering area. It is a 1 mile hilly walk to the nearest bus stop; please reach out if you would like to carpool or get a ride from the bus stop.

COVID Safety Plan: Masks optional. Please stay home if you are having symptoms of anything contagious. If you need different guidelines, please email gatheringround.seattle@gmail.com so we can talk about an inclusive plan.
