Let's celebrate the Winter Solstice and the turning of the seasons around a beach bonfire (and on Zoom). We’ll gather with community and the natural world, watching the sun set on the longest night of the year. We’ll reflect on the earth’s position and the cycles of our natural world and our lives. We’ll be led in gentle contemplative practice and share reflections and a few simple solstice songs (singing or listening are equal choices). One version of this program will take place at the beach, and another version will take place online at the same time.
This event is suitable for all ages and would be most engaging for ages 12 and up.
If attending in person, be prepared for Seattle December weather and dress warm! We may need to relocate indoors in case of rain.
If you are attending online, please log on with 1-3 candles and matches. The Zoom link will be sent when you RSVP.
Free to attend, and contributions are warmly welcomed to meet our program expenses, which are about $25/person. We all make this happen together!
Location:
We are meeting at the lower picnic shelter fire pit. Once you enter the park, go down the hill to the lowest parking lot. Follow the paved path from the parking lot down to the beach.
Contact GatherinGround.Seattle@gmail.com if you would like to find a carpool, or if you would like a pick up from or drop off to the bus stop.
Accessibility:
At the park:
The shelter area is paved and has tables and benches. The bonfire will be next to the picnic shelter in a paved area with benches. There is water at the shelter. There is a public restroom 100ft from the shelter that is typically open in winter.
Bus stops for the 348 and 302 are a 0.6 mile walk from our meeting location, half of which is down/uphill.
Our meeting spot is 500 ft (0.1 miles) from the parking lot. Part of the path is sloped. The path is paved with no steps.
Covid-19 and flu plan: Please stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms. Masks are optional. Reach out if you need different guidelines.
On Zoom:
We are gathering on Zoom with automated captions. We read aloud comments typed in chat. Cameras are optional; most of us participate with cameras on to help build community.
Please contact us with any access needs.
