Big Tree Gathering: Land Acknowledgements as Sacred Practice

  • Montlake Tot Lot East Lynn Street and 26th Avenue East Seattle, WA (map)

What are land acknowledgements? What does it mean to be in relationship with this place, as native land? How do we nurture just and healing relationships with history and place in our own hearts and lives?

Join us for a light community potluck, conversation, and reflection. If you’d like, bring snack food to share.

We’ll be gathering in our regular grove of large cedar and sequoia trees at the Arboretum (Searchable as Montlake Tot Lot, we meet about 40ft to the right/south of the playground). We bring some spare camping chairs and ground cloths, and folks can also bring their own seats if convenient to ensure we have enough seating.

In 2024, we are gathering around the theme of imperfection. Things fail to live up to how we and others would like them to be. We experience illness, disability, and death – as individuals, families, societies, and ecosystems. What is (im)perfect, and who decides? How do we respond to “imperfection” in ourselves and in the world around us? How do we find wisdom (or beauty, joy, or love) in “imperfection”? Join us as we share, read, move, create, rest, and play with imperfection!
