A joyful approach to awe. Connection in a small group.
Join a small group to saunter through a lovely urban space, noticing things vast and tiny. Awe is a practice of noticing your place in the world with openness and surprise. Psychologist Dacher Keltner who studies awe devised Awe Walks as a simple way to cultivate and notice awe. Gathering Ground Community Member CJ Roberts will lightly facilitate our time as we walk about a mile at a leisurely pace. You will leave with a few pointers to explore your own awe walks, connections with a friendly circle, and maybe a short poem!
We’ll begin the walk in our regular gathering location — a grove of large cedar and sequoia trees at the Arboretum (Searchable as Montlake Tot Lot, we meet about 40ft to the right/south of the playground). We'll be there around 15 minutes to catch stragglers and late bus victims before beginning our walk.
Email gatheringround.seattle@gmail.com for any questions or access needs.
Accessibility: There is abundant free street parking. No steps and a fairly level ground. From the street there are approximately 40 ft of flat dirt trail to our meeting spot. Our route goes over well-packed pathways with some steps. There are not benches at every pause point. So if standing is an issue, please let us know. We would like to work together with you to bring a folding stool or find other ways you could join in.
The walking route will be about 1.3 miles long, returning in a loop to where we begin. There are no restrooms on the route, so please plan accordingly!
Please don't hesitate to reach out if anything would be barrier to you so we can find ways to make the gathering accessible.
COVID Safety Plan: Masks optional. Please stay home if you are having symptoms of anything contagious. If you need different guidelines, please email gatheringround.seattle@gmail.com so we can talk about an inclusive plan.
